Republicans 08: Giuliani 30%, Thompson 22%

(angus reid) - Rudy Giuliani keeps an eight-point advantage in the national race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in the United States, according to a poll by Gallup released by USA Today. 30 per cent of respondents would vote for the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.

Actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson is second with 22 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 18 per cent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with seven per cent. Support is lower for Texas congressman Ron Paul, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, California congressman Duncan Hunter, Kansas senator Sam Brownback, and Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo.
