(angus reid) - Rudy Giuliani is the top contender in the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, according to a poll by Opinion Dynamics released by Fox News. 29 per cent of respondents would support the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.
Actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson is second with 16 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 12 per cent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with 11 per cent. Support is lower for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Kansas senator Sam Brownback, Texas congressman Ron Paul, Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo, and California congressman Duncan Hunter.
