New Yorkers Want Bloomberg AS Governor |

(UPI.com) - A poll of New Yorkers suggests 73 percent of the city's residents want Mayor Michael Bloomberg to run for governor in 2010.
The poll, which was taken before Wednesday's resignation of Gov. Eliot Spitzer amidst a sex scandal, found only 22 percent of the 1,427 registered voters questioned between March 4-10 said they do not want Bloomberg to seek the state's highest office, New York Newsday reported Wednesday.
The mayor, who said earlier this month that he has decided not to run for president as an independent, has previously pushed aside suggestions that he seek the governor's office.
"So what's next for Bloomberg?," asked Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Memo to Mayor Mike: The road to the White House has run through Albany, never through City Hall."
The poll had a 2.6 percent margin of error
