(Reuters) - Democratic presidential co-ntender Hillary Clinton le-ads Mr Barack Obama by six points among likely Pennsylvania Democratic primary voters but he is chipping away at her lead, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday.

With two weeks to go until the state’s April 22 primary, Ms Clinton has a 50 per cent to 44 per cent lead, the poll found. In the last poll on April 2, Ms Clinton had a nine-point lead over the Illinois senator, 50 per cent to 41 per cent. Among Pennsylvania women, support for Mr Clinton remained steady at 54 per cent, but Mr Obama gained ground in the new poll with 41 per cent. In the earlier survey, 37 per cent of women favoured Mr Obama.

The poll found that among white voters, Mr Obama gained four points to 38 per cent support, while Ms Clinton slipped 3 points to 56 per cent. Among voters under 44, support for Mr Obama was up four percentage points to 55 per cent. Ms Clinton dropped two points to 40 per cent support in that age group, the poll found. Fifty-two per cent of Pennsylvania Democrats said the economy was the single most important issue in deciding their primary vote, followed by 22 per cent who said the war in Iraq and 15 per cent who cited health care.

Voters who list the economy as the top issue gave Ms Clinton a small 49 per cent to 45 per cent margin over Mr Obama, down from 53 per cent to 39 per cent. Voters who say the war is the pre-eminent issue back Mr Obama 51 per cent to 44 per cent for Ms Clinton.
