(angus reid) - Incumbent Mark Sanford could win a new term as governor in South Carolina, according to the latest poll by SurveyUSA. 54 per cent of respondents in the Palmetto State would vote for Sanford, while 41 per cent would support Democrat Tommy Moore. A late August survey by Rasmussen Reports gave Sanford a 13-point lead over Moore.

Sanford—a Republican—has acted as South Carolina’s governor since January 2003. The former U.S. congressman defeated sitting Democratic governor Jim Hodges in the November 2002 election with 53 per cent of the vote. Read More
