McCain suffers in polls despite criticism of Iraq |

(msnbc) - Once considered the uncrowned Republican candidate for the 2008 presidential election, John McCain's fortunes are plummeting rapidly. And the senator's frustrations are beginning to show.
At a campaign stop in South Carolina on Monday, Mr McCain lashed out at Donald Rumsfeld, the controversial former defence secretary, as "one of the worst secretaries of defence in history". The 70-year-old Vietnam war veteran added: "We are paying a very heavy price for the mismanagement – that's the kindest word I can give you – of Donald Rumsfeld of this war.
